Zambia

Zambia is landlocked and unusually well connected for it - EMM can route through Dar es Salaam, Beira, Durban, Walvis Bay or Lobito, and the right choice depends on where in the country the equipment is going and what the corridors are doing that month. For the Copperbelt, Dar and Lobito are often shortest; for Lusaka and the south, Beira and Durban usually win. We quote the realistic option rather than the theoretically shortest one.

Copper first, then everything else

Mining around Kitwe, Chingola, Mufulira, Solwezi and Lumwana is the dominant industrial demand: slurry and dewatering pumps, crushing and grinding, flotation, thickeners, conveyor idlers and belting, compressors, mine ventilation fans, generator sets, welding plant and heavy workshop tooling. Consumables and wear parts move constantly rather than seasonally, and that steady replacement traffic is a large part of what we ship here. Beyond mining, maize milling is nationwide and significant, with stockfeed, soya and sunflower oil processing alongside it. The Lusaka multi-facility economic zone and the industrial areas buy packaging, plastics, beverage and building-materials plant. Sugar at Nakambala, cotton ginning and tobacco processing all take their own machinery.

What to allow for

The Zambia Bureau of Standards and ZCSA administer import conformity requirements, and we arrange pre-shipment assessment where an item is in scope. Mains is 230 V single phase with 400 V three phase, 50 Hz. Hydro dependence means dry years bring load management, so generators and power factor correction come up often. Most of the country sits between 1,000 and 1,400 m, enough to require derating on compressors and naturally aspirated diesels - we allow for it at specification rather than discovering it at commissioning.
