Why so much of this equipment ends up idle
It is too big. A cassava processing line sized for 10 tonnes a day awarded to a cooperative that can gather two will run at a fifth of capacity, cost more to operate than it earns, and be abandoned. The reverse also happens. We ask what the group actually harvests or collects in a season, what the peak week looks like, and what power is available, and we quote a unit sized to that. A smaller plant that runs is worth more than a larger one that does not, and we will argue that during clarification even when the tender asks for the bigger figure.
Power, and who maintains it
Most of these sites have weak or no grid supply, so we quote generation or solar with the plant. And they are maintained by whoever is on site, so we favour mechanically simple designs, common bearing and belt sizes, and a wear-parts kit in the first shipment.
