Solar Power Plants

In South America, state energy secretariats and rural development funds. Also universities, hospitals and water utilities buying captive generation to escape grid cost and unreliability.

What a serious solar bid contains

Yield modelled from real irradiance data for the coordinates given, with temperature derating and a soiling assumption stated rather than hidden. Module and inverter certification to the standards the tender names. Structural design for the site's wind loading. Cable sizing and loss calculations. Earthing and lightning protection, which matters enormously in the tropics and is routinely under-specified. A performance ratio you are prepared to be measured against. And an operations and maintenance plan with the cleaning regime the soiling assumption depends on.

Where bids quietly fail

Dust. A plant modelled with a 2 percent soiling loss and built in the Sahel will not meet its numbers. We state the assumption, specify a cleaning interval that supports it, and price the water and labour it needs.
