Tunisia is a small country with a disproportionately capable manufacturing sector, built around a particular legal arrangement that importers need to understand. A large share of Tunisian industry operates under the offshore or totally exporting regime, which allows duty-free import of capital equipment and inputs provided the output is exported. For EMM that is significant: the duty position on machinery for a qualifying plant is quite different from the standard tariff, and we confirm which regime a buyer operates under before quoting. Cargo lands at Rades, Sfax, Sousse or Bizerte.
Wiring harnesses, aerospace, textiles, olives
Automotive components, and wiring harnesses in particular, are Tunisia's largest manufactured export, supplying European assembly plants. That sector buys cutting and crimping machines, testing boards, assembly jigs, injection moulding, conveyors and measuring equipment to audited European quality standards. Aerospace subcontracting around Tunis and Monastir is similar in character. Textiles and garments remain large, concentrated in Monastir, Sfax and Sousse, buying knitting, weaving, dyeing, finishing, cutting, sewing and laundry equipment. Olive oil is a major agricultural industry and Tunisia is among the world's largest producers - crushing, malaxing, decanting, centrifuge, filtration and bottling plant are regular enquiries. Dates in the south, citrus, fish processing and canning, phosphates at Gafsa and the chemical industry at Gabes, plus ceramics and building materials, complete it.
Standards and language
Buyers here specify to European norms and expect CE-level documentation and technical files, and inspection on arrival is applied properly. Standard supply is 400 V three phase and 230 V single phase, 50 Hz, European-pattern outlets, with a firm grid. French is the working language of industry alongside Arabic, and we supply manuals and panel markings in French as standard.
Tell us whether your plant is under the exporting regime - it changes the landed cost more than any discount we could offer.
