Sudan is served through Port Sudan, and EMM has supplied into the country long enough to be plain about the present position: conflict since 2023 has disrupted industry, banking and inland transport severely, and what is practical today is narrower than what the market will buy when conditions allow. We continue to quote and ship where routes and payment channels function, we confirm the position at the time of enquiry rather than relying on last year's assumptions, and we do not take orders we cannot see a way to deliver.
The underlying market
Sudan's industrial base is genuinely substantial and it is agricultural at root. Sesame, groundnut and cotton processing - cleaning, hulling, expelling, refining - has been a mainstay of what we supply. Gum arabic, of which Sudan is the dominant world source, takes cleaning, grading, milling and packing plant. Sugar at Kenana and the Gezira scheme, flour milling across Khartoum and the Nile states, and the dairy and edible oil sector all buy processing and packaging machinery. Irrigation on the Gezira and Rahad schemes is one of the largest demands anywhere in Africa for pumps, pipe, canal equipment and sprinkler sets. Gold mining in the north and east takes crushers, mills, pumps, generators and assay equipment.
Conditions
This is extreme heat and extreme dust - Khartoum and the north regularly exceed 45 C and haboob dust storms are routine. Sealed bearings, high-ambient motor ratings, heavy-duty air filtration and dust-tight enclosures are not upgrades here, they are the baseline. Electrical supply is 230 V and, on three phase, 400 V at 50 Hz. Standards conformity is administered by the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organisation.
