South Africa is the one African market where EMM is usually competing against a mature local supply industry rather than filling a gap, and we price and specify with that in mind. Cargo lands at Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Coega or Richards Bay, clearing is professional, and buyers here are technically literate and will read a datasheet properly. If a machine we offer is not demonstrably better value delivered than what a Johannesburg dealer can supply with a service contract behind it, we say so.
Where we are competitive
Mining and mineral processing on the Witwatersrand, the Bushveld platinum belt and the Northern Cape takes pumps, slurry handling, crushing and screening, conveyor components, compressors and underground workshop equipment, and import pricing on wear parts and consumables is often strongly in our favour. Automotive component manufacture around Rosslyn, East London and Durban buys presses, CNC machining, welding automation, jigs and material handling. Food and beverage, agri-processing in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, packaging, plastics and steel fabrication are all steady. Small and medium engineering workshops nationwide are a large market for machine tools, welding plant and compressors.

South Africa is strict. Electrical and mechanical products within scope need a Letter of Authority from the NRCS against the relevant compulsory SANS specification, and pressure equipment falls under its own regulations. This is a document issued in South Africa, it takes time, and goods that arrive without it can be detained. We will tell you at quotation whether your item is in scope. Site power is 230 V single phase, 400 V three phase, 50 Hz. Eskom load shedding is a design input: we routinely quote generators, UPS and soft-start or variable-speed drives alongside plant so that a production line survives a scheduled outage without damage.
