Somalia is served through Mogadishu, Berbera and Bosaso, and EMM treats each as a separate route rather than one country programme, because the clearing arrangements, the inland reach and the commercial practice differ at each. We work with established importers and with diaspora-funded businesses, and we are straightforward about terms: on this route we price carefully, confirm documents in advance and do not promise delivery dates we cannot control once the container leaves the ship.

What the market buys

Livestock is the backbone of the export economy, so holding, feeding, watering and veterinary equipment, plus abattoir and hide-processing plant, come up regularly. Fisheries along one of the longest coastlines in Africa take ice plant, freezers, cold stores, fish handling and small vessel equipment. Food staples drive milling, pasta, biscuit, bottling and juice plant for Mogadishu and Hargeisa. Because grid power is fragmented and largely privately operated, we ship a lot of standalone generation - diesel generator sets, solar arrays, inverters, batteries and borehole pumps, very often as a package with whatever machine they are powering. Construction materials demand is strong: block and brick machines, concrete mixers, batching plants and steel bar equipment.

How we specify for it

Assume no firm mains and high ambient temperature. Equipment that will accept wide voltage variation, start on a generator without nuisance tripping and be repaired with common parts is worth more here than high efficiency figures. We favour mechanically serviceable designs, send spares and wear parts with the first shipment, and keep electronics to what the job actually needs. Where the grid reaches, supply is 220 V single phase, 380 V three phase, 50 Hz.
