Senegal is West Africa's westernmost mainland market and, for EMM, one of its most strategically placed. Dakar sits on the Atlantic shipping lanes, handles transit traffic for Mali, and the new deep water port at Ndayane is being built to take considerably more. The country is francophone, the Diamniadio industrial platform outside Dakar has concentrated new manufacturing in one place, and the gas developments offshore have changed the capital-investment picture. We supply here in French as standard.
Groundnuts, fish, phosphates, gas
Groundnut processing is the historic industrial base - shelling, grading, expelling, refining and oil packaging around Kaolack and Dakar - and it remains a steady source of enquiries. Fisheries are a major export earner, and the Dakar and Saint-Louis operations buy ice plant, freezing tunnels, cold stores, fish processing and canning lines and vessel equipment. Phosphate extraction at Taiba and the fertiliser and chemical industry take crushing, drying, grinding, granulation and bagging plant. The Grand Tortue Ahmeyim gas project and the associated onshore works have generated demand for pumps, valves, compressors, generator sets, welding and fabrication equipment. Diamniadio buys pharmaceutical, packaging, food, plastics and building materials plant. Market gardening in the Niayes belt takes irrigation, cold chain and grading equipment.
Dust, heat and documentation
The harmattan carries Saharan dust across the country from November to March, and it is fine enough to defeat ordinary air filters and get into bearings and electrical enclosures. We specify upgraded filtration, sealed enclosures and dust-tight panels for Senegalese installations as a matter of routine. The grid delivers 230 V single phase and 400 V three phase at 50 Hz, French-pattern outlets, with a reasonably firm grid around Dakar. French documentation and markings are standard from us.
