Panama is primarily a distribution decision rather than an end market, and EMM handles it that way. The Colon Free Zone is the largest free port in the Americas and the second largest in the world, and it exists to receive goods in bulk, hold them under bond, and redistribute them across Latin America and the Caribbean in smaller lots. A substantial share of our Panamanian enquiries come from traders and regional distributors doing exactly that, and we document, mark and pack consignments for onward movement rather than for final delivery.
Why routing through Panama can make sense
If you are selling machinery into several Central American or Caribbean markets, importing one full container to Colon and breaking it there often beats shipping five part-container loads direct from China - shorter lead times to your customers, one set of ocean freight, and stock you can actually show a buyer. The canal and the Pacific and Atlantic terminals at Balboa and Manzanillo make the transhipment economics work. We can consolidate at origin specifically for this, with per-destination marking and separate documentation sets so each onward shipment clears cleanly.
What Panama itself installs
Construction and infrastructure is the largest domestic sector, with Panama City's building programme, the metro extensions and canal-adjacent works buying batching plants, precast, block and paver machines, cranage, crushing and compaction equipment. Logistics and warehousing across the free zone and the Panama Pacifico area buy forklifts, racking, conveyors, sorting, strapping and weighing equipment in volume. Food processing, beverage filling, bakery and cold chain serve the domestic market and the ship-chandling trade. Copper mining, fisheries, banana and coffee processing and water treatment complete it.
Technical notes
The balboa is pegged one-to-one with the US dollar and the dollar circulates freely, so pricing is simple. Mains supply is 120 V single phase and 480 V three phase at 60 Hz. The climate is humid tropical with heavy rainfall, so sealed enclosures and corrosion protection are standard. Spanish documentation throughout.
If you are redistributing regionally, tell us the destination countries and we will mark and document the consignment for each leg.
