Oman gives EMM three ports with genuinely different purposes, and choosing correctly is worth real money. Sohar in the north serves the industrial port and freezone and the Batinah manufacturing belt. Duqm, on the Arabian Sea roughly midway down the coast, is a special economic zone built around a refinery, drydock and new industry, and it sits outside the Strait of Hormuz entirely. Salalah in Dhofar is a major transhipment hub and the gateway to the south. Muscat handles general trade. We ask which before quoting freight.

Industry and the diversification push

Oman Vision 2040 and the In-Country Value programme have put weight behind manufacturing rather than hydrocarbon dependence, and the Sohar and Duqm zones have taken the investment. Steel, aluminium downstream rolling and extrusion, methanol and petrochemical conversion, cement and gypsum, and the ceramics and building-materials sector all buy process plant, furnaces, handling and finishing equipment. Fisheries are a serious industry along a long and productive coast - Duqm and Salalah buy ice plant, freezing tunnels, cold stores, canning, filleting and fishmeal equipment. Agriculture in the Batinah and the Jebel Akhdar takes irrigation, date processing, greenhouse and packhouse equipment. Mining for copper, chromite, limestone and gypsum buys crushing, screening and conveying. Green hydrogen projects in Duqm and Dhofar have begun generating heavy electrical and construction plant enquiries.

Compliance and conditions

Regulated products require conformity certification administered by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and ICV documentation matters on government and PDO-linked tenders - we can provide what a bidder needs. The grid delivers 240 V single phase and 415 V three phase at 50 Hz. The interior reaches 48 C and above with severe dust; the coast adds salt and humidity; Dhofar gets the khareef monsoon between June and September, which is unlike anywhere else in the Gulf and genuinely affects outdoor plant.
