Niger

Niger is the most logistically difficult mainland market EMM supplies in West Africa. It is landlocked, enormous, and two thirds desert. Cargo lands at Cotonou or Lome and travels 1,000 to 1,400 km north to Niamey, further again to Zinder, Maradi or Agadez. Regional border and corridor conditions have been unsettled, so we confirm the working route at the time of enquiry rather than assuming last season's arrangement still holds, and we price the inland leg honestly because it is a large share of the total.

Uranium, oil, and keeping people fed

Uranium mining around Arlit has long been the industrial anchor, buying crushing, grinding, leaching, pumps, compressors, generators and laboratory plant. The Agadem oil field and the export pipeline added demand for pumps, valves, welding and pipe-fitting equipment and field workshops. Gold operations in the west have grown. Agriculture is the livelihood of most of the population, and the processing demand is specific to what grows in the Sahel: millet and sorghum milling, cowpea threshing and cleaning, groundnut shelling and expelling, onion drying and storage for the Galmi trade, and sesame cleaning and grading. Livestock, hides and skins take handling and tanning equipment. Water is the single most consistent category we quote - borehole drilling rigs and consumables, submersible and solar pumps, storage, treatment and distribution.

Built for heat and dust

Niger includes some of the hottest inhabited places on earth, routinely above 45 C, with Saharan dust year-round and severe harmattan conditions. Standard-rated equipment does not survive long. We specify maximum ambient ratings, oversized cooling, multi-stage cyclonic filtration, sealed bearings and IP-rated enclosures, and we ship a wear-parts kit with the first consignment. Solar pumping and generation are often the only practical power. Grid power, where there is any, is 220 V single phase and 380 V three phase at 50 Hz. French documentation as standard.
