Namibia

Namibia has the best port logistics of any market EMM serves in this part of Africa. Walvis Bay is efficient, uncongested and purpose-built as a corridor gateway, which makes it attractive not only for Namibian buyers but for cargo bound for Botswana, Zambia and southern DRC. Transit times from China are longer than to the east coast, but clearance is quick and predictable, and for project equipment that reliability is often worth more than a fortnight at sea.

Mining, fish, water, hydrogen

Uranium at Rossing and Husab and the wider mining sector take crushing and grinding, leaching and process pumps, conveying, compressors, generators and laboratory equipment. The Tsumeb smelter and the base metal operations add materials handling and gas handling requirements. Fishing out of Walvis Bay and Luderitz is a major industry and buys heavily: ice plant, plate and spiral freezers, cold stores, fish processing lines, packaging and vessel equipment. Water infrastructure matters enormously in the second driest country in Africa - boreholes, pipelines, desalination, treatment and storage. The green hydrogen and renewables projects in the south have begun generating enquiries for construction plant, cranage, pumps and electrical equipment on a different scale again.

Coast versus interior

Walvis Bay and Swakopmund sit in cool, extremely humid, salt-laden fog conditions that corrode ordinary equipment fast - we specify marine-grade coating systems, stainless fasteners and sealed enclosures for coastal installations without being asked. Inland is the opposite: hot, bone dry and dusty. Expect 220 V single phase and 380 V three phase, both at 50 Hz. The Namibian Standards Institution administers standards, and SACU membership shapes the duty position.
