Myanmar needs the same candour we apply to any constrained market. Since 2021 international banking relationships have been heavily restricted, sanctions apply to specific entities and sectors, foreign exchange is controlled and import licensing has tightened. EMM screens Myanmar enquiries against sanctions and end-use requirements, declines anything with a restricted or dual-use character or any counterparty we cannot clear, and proceeds only where a lawful payment route exists. Cargo arrives at Yangon and the Thilawa terminals, or overland from China through Muse and Ruili, which has carried an increasing share of trade.
Garments, agriculture, construction materials
Garment manufacture around Yangon and Hlaing Tharyar remains the main export industry and buys industrial sewing, cutting, pressing, washing and finishing equipment. Agriculture is the broad economic base and the processing demand is specific: rice milling at every scale from village huller to commercial multi-pass plant, pulses and bean cleaning and grading, which is a genuine export earner, sesame and groundnut expelling, and rubber sheet and block processing in Mon and Tanintharyi. Fisheries and aquaculture buy ice, freezing and cold storage. Construction materials - cement, bricks, concrete, steel bar - supply domestic building and take crushing, kilns, batching and bar-processing plant. Jade and gemstone cutting and polishing is a specialised local trade. Teak and hardwood processing buys sawmilling and moulding equipment where the licensing permits.
Specification
Grid supply outside Yangon and Mandalay is limited and interruption is common even within them, so standby generation, voltage stabilisation and solar with storage are frequently quoted alongside the plant itself. Nominal supply here is 230 V single phase with 400 V three phase, 50 Hz. The climate is tropical monsoon with very heavy rainfall from May to October, and the delta is low-lying with cyclone exposure from the Bay of Bengal.
