Talk to usMachine and equipment supply in Malaysia
Malaysia is a middle-income manufacturing economy with a technically demanding buyer base, and EMM supplies it through Port Klang, Tanjung Pelepas, Penang for the northern electronics belt, and Kuching or Kota Kinabalu for East Malaysia. The Borneo states are a separate consideration - they have their own ports, their own industries and a sea crossing from the peninsula - so we ask which side of the South China Sea the equipment is going to.
Electronics, palm oil, gloves, oil and gas
Penang and Kulim host one of Asia's older semiconductor and electronics manufacturing clusters, and the demand there is for precision rather than scale: handling and automation, cleanroom equipment, test and measurement, laser marking, dispensing, SMT ancillaries and precision machining. Palm oil, with Malaysia the second largest producer, buys mill and refinery plant - sterilisers, presses, clarification, fractionation, deodorising, oleochemical and biodiesel equipment. Rubber products, particularly medical gloves where Malaysia has long been the world's dominant supplier, buy former lines, dipping tanks, chlorination, drying, stripping and packing equipment. Oil and gas around Kerteh, Bintulu and Labuan takes pumps, valves, compressors and fabrication plant. Furniture in Johor and Muar buys sawmilling, moulding, sanding and finishing machinery. Food processing, packaging, plastics and construction materials fill out the rest.
SIRIM and site conditions
Regulated electrical and certain other products require SIRIM certification and the ST approval for electrical equipment, which is a genuine gate - we confirm the route before quoting. Standard supply is 415 V three phase and 240 V single phase, 50 Hz, with UK-pattern outlets and a dependable grid. The climate is equatorial, humid year-round, so tropicalised windings and sealed enclosures are standard rather than optional. Documentation in English is normal and no translation is needed.
Tell us whether the site is peninsular or in Sabah or Sarawak - the freight and the lead time differ considerably.
