Talk to usMachine and equipment supply in Liberia
Liberia has one technical peculiarity that every importer needs to know and many discover too late: the electrical system is 120 V at 60 Hz, following American practice, not the 230 V 50 Hz used almost everywhere else in Africa. Equipment built for the regional standard will not work here without conversion. EMM checks this at enquiry stage on every Liberian order, and we build motors, controls and panels to 120/240 V 60 Hz from the start. The US dollar also circulates alongside the Liberian dollar, which simplifies pricing.
Iron ore, rubber, palm oil
Iron ore in Nimba and Bong is the largest industrial operation, and the mining and rail infrastructure buys crushing and screening, conveying, stockyard and loading equipment, heavy pumps, compressors, generator sets and workshop plant. Rubber has been central to the economy for a century, and the plantations and processing factories around Harbel and the south east buy coagulation, crepe and sheet processing, drying, baling and effluent equipment. Oil palm estates take fruit reception, sterilising, threshing, pressing, clarification and kernel plant. Timber and sawmilling buy debarking, breakdown saws, resaws, kilns and moulding machinery. Food processing is largely rice and cassava milling, palm oil and bakery and water bottling. Gold mining buys crushers, mills, sluices and pumps. Construction and the Monrovia Freeport logistics trade take batching plants, block machines, forklifts and handling equipment.
Conditions
Monrovia has very high monsoon rainfall from May to October and the climate is humid tropical year-round, so corrosion, mould and water ingress are genuine threats. Tropicalised windings, sealed enclosures and proper coatings are the baseline. Grid coverage is limited outside Monrovia, so generator sets at 60 Hz - which is not the regional default stock item - are part of most packages. English is the working language.
Confirm 120 V 60 Hz with your enquiry and we will build it that way. It is much cheaper than converting on arrival.
