Kenya is the busiest single destination for the machinery EMM ships out of China into East Africa, and almost all of it lands the same way: a container through Mombasa, customs at the port or at an inland container depot in Nairobi, then road or SGR freight to the buyer. Because the Northern Corridor also feeds Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and eastern DRC, a surprising share of what we quote for Kenyan buyers is bought by traders and project contractors who will move it on again.

Who buys equipment here

Horticulture and floriculture around Naivasha and Thika take grading lines, cold rooms, pack-house conveyors and irrigation pumping. Tea and coffee processing in Kericho, Nyeri and Meru buy withering, drying and sorting machinery. Nairobi industrial area, Athi River and Ruiru run the light engineering, plastics, packaging and food plants. On the construction side, Kenyan contractors tend to buy concrete batching, block and paver machines, bar benders and tower hoists rather than hire them. Jua kali workshops and the county-level fabrication trade are a steady market for welding sets, lathes, pipe benders and bench-grade power tools.

Before the goods ship

Kenya operates Pre-Export Verification of Conformity through KEBS, so a Certificate of Conformity has to be issued against the consignment before it leaves China, not after it arrives. We arrange inspection at the factory and pass the CoC with the shipping documents. Supply is 240 V single phase and 415 V three phase at 50 Hz, with UK-pattern plugs, so motors and control panels are built to that from the start rather than re-wired on site.
