Iraq is one of the largest reconstruction and industrial opportunities in the region and one of the more involved to supply, and EMM handles it through several quite distinct routes. Umm Qasr and the Basra terminals take seaborne cargo for the south. The Kurdistan Region is normally served overland through Turkey via Ibrahim Khalil to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, which is a different clearing process with its own documentation. Baghdad and the centre can be reached from either direction, or overland via Jordan and Kuwait. We confirm the route and the clearing arrangement before quoting, because the three are not interchangeable.
Oil, power, cement, food
The southern oilfields around Basra, the Kirkuk fields and the refineries buy submersible and surface crude pumps, wellhead and line valves, gas-lift compressors, degassing and separation stations, heat exchangers, generator sets, welding rectifiers, pipe bevelling and alignment gear and field workshop machinery in volume, with heavy spares demand on plant that has been run hard. Power generation and distribution is a national priority after years of shortfall, so generator sets, transformers, switchgear and cabling are consistently in demand. Cement, bricks, concrete and steel reinforcement underpin reconstruction and buy crushing, kilns, batching, block and paver machines and bar processing. Food processing is substantial import substitution - flour milling, dairy, poultry, vegetable oil, beverage and water bottling, date processing, bakery and cold chain. Agriculture in the Tigris and Euphrates basins takes pumps, irrigation, grain handling and milling equipment.
Conformity and conditions
Imports are subject to pre-shipment conformity assessment against Iraqi standards administered by COSQC, and we arrange the inspection and certificate in China. Basra and the south exceed 50 C in summer with high humidity near the Shatt al-Arab; the centre and north add severe dust. Maximum ambient ratings and heavy filtration are the baseline. Reckon on 230 V single phase and 400 V three phase, 50 Hz, with grid supply unreliable enough that standby generation belongs in almost every specification.
