Talk to usMachine and equipment supply in Canada
Canada is often treated as an extension of the United States market and it is not, in two respects that cost importers real money. First, certification: electrical equipment requires CSA certification or an equivalent mark from a Standards Council of Canada accredited body, and a US UL listing is not automatically accepted - provincial electrical authorities will reject unmarked or wrongly marked plant. Second, voltage: Canadian industry runs largely on 600 V three phase where the United States uses 480 V, so a motor or panel built for an American plant is wrong here. EMM checks both before anything is manufactured. Cargo lands at Vancouver and Prince Rupert on the Pacific, Montreal or Halifax in the east.
Resources, agriculture, food
Mining is a major industry across Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and the territories - gold, nickel, copper, potash in Saskatchewan, and the oil sands of Alberta - buying crushing, grinding, flotation, slurry and dewatering pumps, conveying, compressors, generator sets and heavy workshop plant, with wear parts consumed continuously. Forestry and sawmilling in British Columbia and Quebec buy debarking, breakdown saws, chipping, drying kilns, planing and finishing machinery. Prairie agriculture buys grain handling, drying, storage, cleaning, seed processing and canola crushing equipment at serious scale. Food processing covers meat and poultry, dairy, bakery, maple syrup, beverage and extensive cold chain. Greenhouse horticulture in Leamington and British Columbia is substantial. Construction, recycling and water treatment complete it.
The things that are specific to Canada
Bilingual labelling is a legal requirement for many goods, and safety markings, warning labels and instructions in both English and French are expected on industrial plant - this is not optional and not a courtesy. Electrical service is 120 V single phase, 600 V three phase, 60 Hz. Winter across the prairies and the north reaches minus 35 C and colder, so cold-rated steels, lubricants, heaters and insulated enclosures are required for outdoor and unheated installations.
Confirm 600 V and 60 Hz, and ask about CSA certification before you order. A US listing will not get you through a Canadian electrical inspection.
