Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is landlocked and EMM supplies it through three possible gateways - Abidjan, Tema and Lome - with road haulage of 1,000 to 1,200 km to Ouagadougou or Bobo-Dioulasso. Corridor conditions and security along the routes vary, so we quote the route that is actually working rather than the one that is shortest on paper, and we build genuine contingency into the delivery estimate. Being honest about transit risk is more useful to a buyer here than an optimistic date.

Gold, cotton, and food

Gold mining is now the largest export sector and the main driver of heavy equipment demand: crushing and milling, gravity and carbon-in-leach circuits, elution and smelting, slurry pumps, dewatering, compressors, generator sets, borehole equipment and assay laboratory plant. Artisanal and small-scale operations are a separate and substantial market for smaller crushers, mills, sluices, pumps and detectors. Cotton is the traditional backbone, with ginning, baling and seed crushing concentrated around Bobo-Dioulasso. Shea is a significant and growing export - the nut collection, crushing, expelling and refining chain buys steadily. Sesame, cowpea, maize and sorghum processing, plus oil expelling and flour milling, cover the food sector. Water is critical in a Sahelian country, so borehole drilling, submersible pumps, solar pumping and treatment are constant demands.

Heat, dust and self-sufficiency

Temperatures regularly exceed 40 C in March to May and the harmattan dust is severe. High ambient motor ratings, oversized cooling, cyclonic pre-filters and dust-tight enclosures are the baseline here, not options. Grid reach outside the two main cities is limited, so solar and diesel generation are often quoted with the machine. Where mains is available it runs at 220 V and 380 V, 50 Hz.
