Azerbaijan sits at the hinge of the Middle Corridor, the trans-Caspian route that carries cargo from China across Kazakhstan, over the Caspian to Baku, and on to Georgia and Turkey. That route has grown considerably as an alternative to the northern rail corridor, and EMM uses it both to supply Azerbaijani buyers and to reach Georgia and eastern Turkey. Cargo arrives at Baku and the new Alat port, or overland from Turkey and Georgia. We quote the corridor that is working rather than the one that looks shortest.
Hydrocarbons, and the non-oil push
Oil and gas is the economic foundation - the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli complex, Shah Deniz, and the pipeline systems through to Turkey and Europe - and it buys export and injection pumping, pipeline valves and actuators, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, three-phase separators, heat exchange skids, generator sets, welding and pipe-fabrication plant and certified spares. The Sangachal terminal and the Baku shipyard add handling, lifting and fabrication demand. Government policy on non-oil diversification has funded industrial parks at Sumgait, Ganja and Mingachevir, which have taken petrochemical conversion, steel, aluminium, cable, tyre and building-materials plant. Agriculture is a real growth sector: cotton has been revived, along with hazelnuts, pomegranates, grapes and tomatoes, and the processing demand covers ginning, drying, juicing, canning, grading, cold storage and wine equipment. Caspian fisheries and caviar aquaculture take chilling and processing plant. Construction in Baku remains substantial.
Documentation and conditions
Azerbaijan applies its own standards and certification regime through AZSTAND, with Azerbaijani and Russian documentation generally expected, and we confirm the route at enquiry. Standard supply is 380 V three phase and 220 V single phase, 50 Hz. The climate ranges from humid subtropical in the south and on the Caspian littoral to continental and cold in the Greater Caucasus, with Baku notoriously windy and salt-exposed, so coastal corrosion protection matters more here than the latitude suggests.
Ask us to price the Middle Corridor. For Caspian-side destinations it frequently beats sea freight through Europe.
