Australia has an entry requirement that stops more shipments than any tariff does, and it has nothing to do with the machine. Biosecurity is enforced rigorously: timber packaging and dunnage must meet ISPM 15 with proper treatment marks, and used or soil-contaminated equipment - a mine pump with dirt in the housing, a tractor implement with soil on it - will be held, ordered to be cleaned at your cost, or refused entry. EMM steam-cleans and inspects before loading and certifies the packaging properly, because a container held in Fremantle for a fortnight costs more than the cleaning ever would. Cargo lands at Port Botany, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle or Adelaide, with Port Hedland and Dampier handling Pilbara project cargo.
Mining, agriculture, food, and the cost of labour
Mining is the industrial centre of gravity - iron ore in the Pilbara, coal in the Hunter and Bowen basins, gold in Western Australia, lithium, bauxite and copper - and it buys crushing and screening, conveying and idlers, slurry and dewatering pumps, filtration, compressors, generator sets, workshop plant and a very large continuous volume of wear parts. Agriculture buys grain handling, storage, drying, seed cleaning, livestock handling, shearing and irrigation equipment across holdings of a scale found almost nowhere else. Food and beverage processing - meat and lamb, dairy, wine, almonds and horticulture - buys processing, filling, packaging and cold chain plant. Because Australian labour is expensive, automation and end-of-line robotics sell on a straightforward payback argument here in a way they do not in cheaper-labour markets. Construction, recycling and water treatment are all substantial.
RCM and site conditions
Electrical and certain other products require the Regulatory Compliance Mark, which means an Australian or New Zealand responsible supplier registered on the national database and compliance with the applicable AS/NZS standards - this is a genuine legal gate, not a label. Power comes in at 230 V single phase or 400 V three phase, 50 Hz. Inland and Pilbara sites exceed 45 C with severe dust and abrasive red iron ore fines, so high ambient ratings and heavy multi-stage filtration are the baseline.
Ask us about ISPM 15 packaging and the RCM route with your enquiry. Those two prevent the delays that actually happen here.
