Angola

Angola is a serious market and a demanding one. EMM ships principally to Luanda, with Lobito serving the corridor east towards Zambia and the Congolese Copperbelt, and Namibe handling the south. Angola is Portuguese-speaking, oil-funded and in the middle of a long effort to manufacture more of what it consumes, and both of those facts shape what we are asked for. We supply documentation and machine markings in Portuguese as a matter of course, because an operator who cannot read the panel is a safety problem, not a translation problem.

Diversification is the demand driver

Oil and gas around Cabinda, Soyo and offshore remains the economic base and buys pumps, valves, compressors, generator sets, welding and pipe plant and fabrication workshop equipment. But the growth in our order book here comes from import substitution: beverage bottling and canning, brewing, dairy, flour and pasta milling, edible oil refining, poultry and feed mills, cement and building materials, plastics, packaging and furniture. The Luanda-Bengo special economic zone and the industrial development programme have put real money behind this. Agriculture is reviving on the planalto - maize, coffee, cassava and sugar - and takes milling, drying, processing and irrigation equipment. Lobito corridor rehabilitation has added construction and rail-adjacent plant demand.

Getting it there

Pre-shipment inspection applies to imports and we arrange it in China so the certificate travels with the documents. Letters of credit and foreign exchange allocation can take time, so we set quotation validity realistically and confirm before despatch. Power is 50 Hz, 220 V single phase and 380 V across three phase. Luanda is hot and humid; the planalto is temperate and much drier, which changes cooling and corrosion specification.
