Talk to usMachine and equipment supply in Afghanistan
Afghanistan requires the most honest assessment of any market in this section. Since 2021 the banking system has been largely cut off from international correspondent relationships, formal letters of credit are not generally available, sanctions and counterparty screening apply, and routes depend on Pakistani, Iranian and Central Asian transit arrangements that change. EMM screens every Afghan enquiry against sanctions and end-use requirements, we will not supply anything with a dual-use or restricted character, and where we cannot establish a lawful and traceable payment route we decline. Where those conditions can be met, we do supply.
Routes and what moves
Cargo reaches Afghanistan through Karachi and the Torkham or Chaman crossings, through Bandar Abbas or Chabahar in Iran, or overland from Uzbekistan via Hairatan and from China through the Central Asian corridors. Each has different transit documentation and different reliability. The demand is for productive basics: flour and grain milling, oil expelling, raisin and dried fruit processing, which is a real export industry, saffron cleaning and grading, cold storage for fruit, and bakery and water bottling plant. Marble and granite quarrying and cutting in Herat and Nangarhar is a genuine industry buying saws, polishing and finishing equipment. Mining for talc, chromite, coal and gemstones takes crushing, milling and small-scale processing. Water and power equipment - borehole rigs, hand and solar pumps, submersibles, generating sets, solar modules, inverters and batteries - is in constant demand.
Specification
Assume no service network, no spares locally and no reliable grid. Mechanical simplicity and field repairability outweigh efficiency. We ship comprehensive wear-parts kits with the machine. Conditions are extreme continental: summers above 40 C in the lowlands, winters well below freezing across the highlands, and Kabul at 1,800 m with much of the country far higher, so both altitude derating and cold-start provision matter. On the grid that exists, supply is 220 V single phase with 380 V three phase, 50 Hz.
